Small feedback: Clay cauldrons

Postby LadyGoo » Mon Aug 15, 2016 10:58 am

Cauldrons are a very important crafting tool, used for:
- Boiling food
- Jewelry
- Armor
- Gilding
- Curiosities
and etc.

The clay cauldron has been used only in the early-game in Hafen 8. Nowadays, you never see it being used in bigger villages even in the early-game stage. The reason for this is that the overground metal boulders let you instantly get metal. Whereas the clay cauldron halves the quality of the water + you will not get the high quality clay cauldron until your people will get enough survival. By this time, you can already produce the same quality metal cauldrons (if not better).

In my point of view, using the clay cauldrons should still be a feasible option. Therefore, it would benefit to:
- Make some items that could be crafted only in the сlay cauldron (increases the trade value of clay as well)
- Removal of cauldrons' "reducing the water quality feature" would make clay cauldron use survive to the mid-game stage

Current trend of clay cauldrons disapearing from the bigger scene of the early-game is due to the fact that metal is easier to discover, the max. average clay quality is lower than 60 in W9, whereas there can be metal cauldrons up to quality 270.

IMO - it is metal that should be more hard to get so clay cauldron (and all other primitive tools) are usable until mid-game.

I do kind of miss the satisfaction that came alongside finding metal in legacy, but the game is generally improved by more people having access to it. It could stand to be a little less common than it is, but it's at a pretty good place I think.

I'm not sure why the clay cauldron being a second-class citizen is an issue, though. With how little it's actually used, it could have the water penalty removed, but it becomes obsolete quickly as your technology advances like a bunch of other things.

Why have items that are only crafted with a clay cauldron? What sense does it make, forcing people to have both?

It should be very specific items (like some curios and/or food), we do have some IRL, where metal influence could be important.
Though, as stated before, I don't think that there's a problem with clay cauldron in itself. The problem is metal-boulders, gathered by rush-playstyle people (Lady's one of them)... For most of ppl, joined new world on even 2nd week - there is no problem with CC - they should spend some time before getting any metal from mines and for that time CC fits ideally.
So maybe the proper solution would be to remove ore-boulders (or ore tiles at all) replacing them with some kind of stones, which provide a little chance to smelted into the ore....

You clearly want more advantage from your hq clay spot?
I think this idea is just dumb.

You could ask.
Why people dont use wooden clogs?
Maybe make them OP so people use them?
Why dont warriors usually wear spruce caps or stone axes?

Erm, at what point your eyes got red and you have not been able to read everything properly? :D Oh wait, taking into account your previous posts in other places such as "omg retarded russian", "Dis consists of faggots" and etc., it is clear where your motivation comes from.

By the time when you would be able to use your clay (get enough survival and actually find the node) you will already be producing much better quality metal cauldrons. With the current mining and metal system your words about me getting more advantage of my clay (which is quite widespread everywhere, q 56) are beyond any comments.

IMO - it was too easy in W8 (not playing at W9)
We had metal on day 2 of playing. Just 2 of us and not really focusing on finding metal boulders.
And we had an ore vein on day 7 I think. Thus - nearly endless supply of low Q metal.

Now, with more boulders (as I understood) you can get plenty of metal on day 1-2. Which almost eradicates the need of primitive tools.

IMO - metal should be less complex to get than in old worlds. But it should take at least 2-3 weeks of rather intense play to get a whole set of all metal tools.
