Prophesies

Postby overtyped » Wed Aug 17, 2016 2:02 am

Each day you get a prophesy from the gods, it may be good or bad, but it is something that will happen to you.
For example, "A day will come, a boar you'll see, his heart as black as the dreaded night" it could give a high chance of giving a dark heart when you kill a boar, until you get one, thus fulfilling the prophesy.
You would have a limit of some amount, maybe 7, and if you don't fulfill the prophesies, then you won't get any new ones, so it will curb alts a bit.

I thought it would give some incentive to log in, lots of games do stuff like this to keep people interested, because it's worthwhile.
Some others maybe.
" Soon A giant will be born upon the corpse of mother earth" It means soon you'll get jumped by a troll while mining, lol.
" a beast has stalked for many days, it's heart filled with desire, for a hearthling it will prey" A Bear spawns frequently until one of the spawns is killed"
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

Yeah, server events like that are a tested way to encourage activity.

This idea has appeared in many forms during the past 11 months. For example: viewtopic.php?f=48&t=50162&p=665163

In some games it is called daily quests. Which makes people log in and play.
And yeah - some prophesies have to be rare and rewarding to make players do even boring prophesies to free space
