In my mind would be better if you have to start a new character ( a sort of death for starvation..)
If I taking long break from game and come back later, I do not want to start new character. Obvious I will want to keeping statistic I farm on my character. Also I will want to start back in place I am leaving. What if I do play with some friend? All friend want to come back to game together, but they will all random spawn because hearth fires go away.

I think words to describe you feeling here is ''haughty.'' To suggesting player cannot enjoy world with custom client is silly. You imply your way of play game is better than other, which I think is not wise saying.

1)Don't spoil the game for new players finding very advanced abandoned claim ( now it's pretty common)
2)Keeping most of the trash away of this world, cause it ruin the atmosphere, the wilderness...that make this game so good for many of us.
I think you can consider that some player like to explore old ruin and it is not ''spoils'' game for them. I have see some people talking about this at other thread some time.
But in general, I think having too much of abandoned claim is looks to be eyesore on world. Especially if goal is for world to run indefinite with no reset, these abandon claim must disappear quick enough. I would like if decay systems will reduce former claim to area that looks as fresh given enough time (current I think no tree does regrow and paving is always stays, etc.).
