New player's feedback and critque

Postby Aeroxia » Sun Sep 18, 2016 7:53 am

As I started, I took notes on issues I encountered with the game. I liked the idea of it and often have more to say at the start of a game than later in, after getting used to things. I think many people forget about annoyances after getting accustomed to something over time, or never personally were bothered and so the game is filled with more of that kind of person. From a developer perspective, I thought it might be worth something to have feedback from people that may not necessarily stick around and to know why that might be. I didn't mean to be harsh, I wasn't sure I was going to post this, I was just putting my thoughts down as-is, so I hope you can forgive the "tone" on some of it.

Also, I had a lot of trouble with preserving formatting, so this is what I came up with (it'll still be a mess if you don't have a wide enough resolution):

Checking forums for a place to post this, I see something about custom clients. I don't think most people would get far enough to find that before quitting and it's "not endorsed" and "at your own risk" and you automatically get what you get when you hit the big "Play" button as you're instructed to. If using a custom client is the recommended way, it should be officially recommended somewhere.

Most of things in your list are something that devs are working in. Or well, have been working in for years.

According to the devs and their cheerleaders, pathfinding will somehow ruin this game. Your effort was for naught.

There would be no gameplay if you wouldn't have to spam click your way.

Custom clients eliviate half the issues you mentioned. Standard client is pure shit. The wiki provides answers to most of your questions

Clicking an item on the equipment screen does not drop it
Pathfinding will be added soon
The tutorial quest does nothing and can be hidden from the quest menu
Alt click item to move all to stockpile

You're right about the clients and other things but I think they would rather finish the game content before having mass exposure. There are many hardcore fans who can look past the issues

Not the equipment screen, the inventory screen, like if your click is within the GUI but not on a specific inventory slot

Otherwise I see what you're saying though

Edit: Alt click doesn't seem to be doing that for me

While I would love a pathfinding system, how would it be implemented without being massive poop?

I mean like, if you click a straight line and you have a dead center tree infront of you, does it automatically circle around the tree when it gets to it?

Would that be a problem? It could do that, it could generate a path that would go around it and other obstacles from the very start, anything that works. Most games have no problem with it. Some let you get around it without "pathfinding" per se just by how the collision and physics work, push up against it and it makes its way by, like how if you walk toward a wall in a first person game at an angle and slide along it. (Not recommending that, just saying.)

Alt right click

There's a list of shortcuts somewhere but I'm too lazy to find it right now

you can shift click from stockpile to inventory, but not go the other way around

if you take item into your cursor, hold shift and right-click, you will place all stockpile-able items into the stockpile instantly. At least on custom client.
