Community: The next world should be made permanent

Postby LadyGoo » Tue Sep 20, 2016 4:01 pm

Due to the recent announcement of the new combat system, I have some concerns regarding the possible server wipe upcoming (the devs mentioned that there will be no wipe without the new combat system). As a trader and a person that talks and observes the community as much as possible, I home come to a conclusion that is quite opposite to my other ideas thread suggesting a game server that would be wiped frequently.

The imminence of wipe and talks about upcoming wipe damages both population and the in-game and real-life-devs economy:
- People do not return to the game after quitting or losing their character, expecting that the world wipe will be soon. There is no need to invest so much time and energy on something that will be destroyed soon. As the result, the majority of the playerbase won't play the game, even if they find the new updates interesting and exiting. The newbies won't try hard either and loose interest fairly soon.
- Hearing that the wipe is coming soon also makes the remaining population for probably 50 times less eager to invest money on subscriptions and tokens.

I have seen a notable server population growth after the kingdoms, stat caps removal and world border removal updates. The game has the potential to return the old players back to the game if the right content will be implemented.

I think it is to ''never saying never.'' Unless you are seer of future, you can not say this world will never wipe. What if some circumstance come that makes it very useful? I think these same effect can be do by say some things like ''server is lasts for at least 1 years duration'' or maybe ''server can be wipe at any time, but it must be 6 month between announcing and wipe'' so player always know world is at least 6 months remain if no things have been say.

But I think world generation can/should be improve still. Such thing is going to require wiping. Or some other major server changing (e.g. some things like floating point coordinate) could be maybe needed in future. Or some critical bug that nukes sever (hopeful to never happen). In these case it is bad things to say ''we are never do server wipes!'' and then they are force to do this once. People can get upset at break promise. More wise to never make this promise so strict in the beginning place.

They should backup frequently to avoid the situation with the ore like in W8 :D
But yeah, you've got a point that there might be things that will require the further world wipes. I am not sure how can they address the issue to be honest.

I don't like this statement
W10 Meme Plot | W9 Mantis Garden | W8 Core | W7 Ofir | W6 the City of Dis | W5 Vitterstad | W4 A.D. | W3 Mirniy

I find it kind of annoying that they won't give any specific details regarding a wipe, if it's coming soon or not and I do realize to say it would be coming soon would effectively kill any of the remaining player base but jorb will say something like "There will not be a new world before there is a new combat system" and just leave that hanging there for people to take any way they like.

Well, but the truth is that many plyers won't invest money into the game, because they are sure that the wipe is nigh. And a lot of people won't come, since they know their efforts will be wasted soon at any time.
Yeah, there is a huge share of people that find the game boring during the late-game as well. But the points above are also true.
