Why we can't put locks on doors?

Because so far we can't.

Sorry, no better answer available - this has been asked for quite a while.

It would be too easy way to have protection.
If they would be easy to break they would be useless.
In other words I doubt that lock will ever be added to doors.

It is much more easy than build palisade?

I would say yes.

Eh, maybe. I think both are pretty trivial actions for doing. Still, even if it is easy for build, you can hand bash house. You can not hand bash palisade. This seems as fair trading off to me.

Not all barriers have to work like walls or something you have to break down. Time is a barrier too.
Even with 100% lockpicking chance, if locked doors took like 5 minutes to open they'd still be very useful.

Maybe if it's possible to break or pick the lock.

If this was a thing, i would guess it'd be:

Builder of the lock has 67 Carpentry. (Or smithing, or anything else, whichever seems best.) So, to pick the lock, you'd need a lock-pick (Most likely made from metal.) and atleast 68 Stealth.

Maybe when they add object-controlled objects, when you can enter a house and it doesn't have it's own pocket dimension, you can somehow bash through a door. (Possibly with enough strength, or a mini-ram. Maybe houses could have quality, and higher means you need higher strength to bash through the door. Or, maybe you could build the door separately with the house, and only the door has quality.)
Total misplay.

I'd like to bring this thread up as it interests me very much.

Reason: beyond the siege/security gameplay issues, locks on doors would have VERY NICE uses that would allow for tons of new interactions in the game. For once, it would make Field Cairns markets or housing far more possible, something I'm doing right now in my city, Aurora - but it has security issues that are making people worry a bit.

With locks on doors, those issues would be gone.

So here's a suggestion to make it VERY simple and yet useful for when everyone is blessed with Visitor (that is, not a siege situation):

You can't enter unless you have the key.

And if you have no visitor - that is, invasion or siege:

You can freely enter a house with a lock on the door; only thing it happens is that it leaves a vandalism scent on the door.

Yes, it makes it less useful as a security measure but mitigate its issues as well.
And it becomes *extremely* useful for social and city building situations!

Please, Jorb!
