Biome Planting or Cultivation

Postby Onep » Mon Sep 26, 2016 5:59 am

I've mentioned a relatively similar idea a while back here. But this idea would allow for one to harvest and transfer specific biome tiles by collecting it in a tree pot (leaving a dirt tile behind) and then transferring it to another dirt or plowed tile. I think this would be a neat way to transplant different biomes for decoration and cultivation.

The reason I think something like this would be necessary is because there are so many pretty looking grasses, it's a shame it's near impossible to use them when building a village or plot. The natural spread is impossibly slow and incredibly limited by itself. This is especially prevalent when you're doing large scale terraforming and paving for the foundations of a city. The default grass from farming seeds is alright, but there are just so many other options out there that look way better.

Another option could be to allow the 'plant grass' function to instead replicate the nearest grass tile instead of simply creating the generic grass it does at the moment.

In short: let me spread/grow my heath biome!
I'm just waiting for it to slowly crawl across my cleared land... And by the time it actually finishes we'll probably be in W11.

And who cares about combat... when you could just be planting grass?

Anyone who doesn't agree with this idea hates nature and quality memes.

I agree that it should perhaps be easier or more controlled than it is, but I also have some thoughts in the direction of making the terrains matter more. Idk.

Perhaps instead of transplanting the biomes, you can give us a means to accelerate its growth? Such as planting fertilizer on a tile and it has a chance to tick onto a nearby soil tile? That would keep the terrain local, but still allow it to be expanded. I mean, of course some nerdpole could make a line or across the map or w/e (edit: actually since rivers are so prolific, that isn't really an issue), but think of the LARP?

If you can transplant biomes to easily then why have biomes at all? If anything is interchangeable the unique areas are lost. I'm not saying it should not be possible just it should be an exact and slow process.
