Custom structure

Postby ven » Wed Oct 26, 2016 12:11 am

Imagine a statue. Now imagine if we could make a custom sculpture based on a set of predetermined options. Right now we are able to create a painting externally and then port it into the game. What if we also had the option of creating a custom sculpture, and then porting it too?

I'm thinking about a simple interface that lets us select a series of preloaded forms, like trees, weapons, people and animals in different poses, determine it's size, lightning color, and then generate a recipe to build it in the game. You've seen the community paving art; just think what sveta or the emerald city people would create with that feature.

This would allow us to create, for example, giant tree statues out of malachite and gold, colossus fitting of a kingdoms prestige, and various ambient decorations for our villages (including the means for large chess pieces).

In short what I'm asking for is that we be able to build statues of stuff of which you already have 3D models made.

This is very dwarf fortress and therefore should absolutely be a thing.

Now just replace every noun with DICKS for the haven-translated version

If we're only able to choose from a list of objects, we won't be able to make penises. Like trees, boars, prancing horses, mauling bears, people in heroic or surrendering poses, plus swords, pickaxes, anvils - only things the devs already have the 3D models made. The neat feature would be selecting the size and lighting color of those things. It would work both as community monument projects and as a means for village ambience and customization.

This last one is probably a metaphor of how capitalism has been brutally wrecking californian economy.

This is very true. The most true. I know it. You know it. Everybody knows it. Folks, let me tell you about this. This is the rule all rules should be ruled by.

how about you first have to make a drawing of the object you want to sculpture. That way parchment and pigment get more meaning.

Pretty sure that would require ungodly amounts of coding.

I suspect you also underestimate the amount of coding that would go into a UI for choosing parts and mashing them together in a controlled manner, though.

I probably do, yeah.

But the suggestion was to build individual statues, not mashing them together on the UI and then porting then into the game, if that's what you meant by that.

Honestly I would just be happy with a few statues of animals and objects, purely for aesthetics.

Statues would be cool, but I feel kind of bad if I just make some entirely random statue, and by that method try to exhaust the enormous possibility space. Not sure how to approach.
