This is how i could see it working:
- The boat (merchant ship?) would have a captains quarters that is only accessible if you can man the helm (have a key). You would first join the helm or crew, then have a option to enter captains quarters
- The quarters could be very small, 3x3, enough for a bed, table chair and a chest or something. construction inside them (HF's, winderness beacons) would not be allowed.
- To stop players from hiding in the quarters if they are attacked or red handed, the quarters would only be locked while no one was online inside it. If someone entered with the key, the quarters would be open while they were inside, so you could go in and kill whoever was inside or board their ship while they are inside and rob them.
- You would make it so if the boat was damaged more than 50% (siege weapons only?) the quarters would open up as well so that if you wanted to get the goodies out of the boat before sinking it, you could.
- ideally i would like the same sort of thing to happen for wagons, 2x3 inside area perhaps. as it would be cool if people could live out of wagons as well.
Benefits to game:
- Being able to have semi secure storage without needing a plot (which now is not activated instantly)
- Remember the Tale of Wandering Women? They were online at different times and if one moved they would have to catch up to each other. or wait for everyone to be online at the same time to move the wagon. if you allowed them to log out inside the boat or wagon, their friend could travel around and when they logged in, they would be at the new location with them.
Living out of a boat would still be dangerous, theoretically someone could just join your crew and wait for you to come online again to kill you. But i think this would allow people to make super long treks in the game while still "playing". Currently if i wanted to make the treck across the world in a knarr i could take a table / cauldron / sausage grinder etc but it will just be stolen eventually, then i will have nothing left but the cloths on my back and a knarr with its inventory stolen.
