i was thinking packrack, they follow you around while mining and get in the way

we can leash to trees already, makes sense using whats already built

And add random chance for animals to go crazy and rip the support off causing massive cavein.

I do think you should be able to hitch them to stalagmites and possibly mine supports, I think it was Jordan who suggested it originally ... they do get in the way and you really don't want your path to be blocked by your bull/cow if you uncover a troll!
I've started mining out a little square to one side of the line I'm working on and dropping them off in there, it seems quite effective majority of the time.
