New Hearth Magic: Druidic Whisper

Postby DaniAngione » Mon Dec 19, 2016 9:57 pm

Hello there :)

A simple yet nice (IMO) suggestion to mitigate one of the most annoying mechanics (yet arguably necessary... more or less): Tree Stunting!

Tree stunting adds a necessary deal of variability to tree growing... But it becomes boring and annoying once you have all the relevant skills and yet a lot of trees stunt. It's kind of stupid, especially when you can't get the seeds - which creates boring game metas like everyone planting things like Olive - and the oh-so-feared lineage extinction, if you are unlucky enough for all your trees of a certain type to stunt at once.

So... to mitigate that at a cost & without removing stunting at all, comes a new idea for a Hearth Magic that could be unlocked with Druidic Rite:

Druidic Whisper!
For a cost in experience, breathe new life into a stunted tree, allowing it to grow again. Trees that have been whispered to will always grow to 100%, without stunting again.

Cost
Now, there are several options here, all of them seem interesting in terms of gameplay.

A) A medium cost, so it becomes something to be used when really necessary (something between 2000~5000 XP)

B) A small cost - like 500 XP - but with an added effect: trees that have been whispered to will have their average quality reduced slightly.

C) A dynamic price that is different depending on how much the tree has grown already. So it could cost like 200 XP if the tree has stunted on 94% or 10,000 XP if it stunted on 16% (just random examples); this is interesting albeit a bit punishing over something completely random, so it's my least favorite option.

I hope the suggestion is appreciated!
Thank you for your time :)

Plays very nicely into the general idea of magic that's already in the game, I second this. A) option seems reasonable to me.

I don't even grow trees but this would be cool. Maybe it could also increase the growth of trees that are growing normally and if you casted it on a field maybe it'd grow faster?

Thank you! Yeah, I like option A as well :)

Thanks for the support :D
Yeah, other effects such as this would be interesting to have at some point but I wouldn't like to see it now. Not that the idea is bad, however allowing stunting trees to grow again doesn't offer any real "benefit" over others - it just lowers your chances of failing at tree planting.
Now, increasing growth rate of trees and even fields would offer a great advantage for hardcore, end-game quality grinding... and unfortunately, as things stand right now, this would only encourage even more Experience/Authority bots among certain factions.

I like A, but a static cost around 2k~5k is a bit too much for a noob like me :(
Maybe C with increasing cost based on how much the tree has grown & the quality of the stunt tree (higher Q tree requires higher XP).

Yeah, I suggested something like this before. Definitely needs to be added in my opinion. Tree stunting is one mechanic in the game that randomly punishes you with literally no way to reverse it.

Tree stunting should either be turned into slowing the further growth (instead of permanently halting it) or it needs a way to be reversed.

I like the suggestion, regarding the cost I think scaling it according to the quality of the tree could make sense.

I approve of this - though I've never had this problem myself.

Hmm. Unsure.
