Enlightenment

Postby GamingRAM » Sat Dec 31, 2016 6:55 pm

So you know how the devs and a bunch of us want to have more reason to go out into the world and not just huddle behind the comforts of our walls? And you also know there are some rare things out there such as Dryads and Local Resources that either have no purpose (Dryads) or have been already been looted and you probably will never get the chance due to their insane respawn time (Local Resources) ?

Well I would like to introduce the idea of a new Attribute into the game, "Enlightenment". This is an Attribute that would not be raised by food, but rather through DISCOVERY! Every time you discover the obscure, weird, magnificent, or mystic, your Enlightenment would go up. You know how when you discover a Dryad or a Local Resource you get some EXP and a notification? Well when you discover these things, you get a point (or points) towards your Enlightenment.

This would:
- Be difficult to bot due to having to NEED to constantly try to find new rare discoveries (hence it being a Journey for Enlightenment).
- Give people reason to try to find Local Resources even if they are empty!
- Encourage people to go out and explore the world! Even noobs with a simple rowboat can raise this stat.

Potentials for Abuse + Counter Arguments:
- Couldn't people trap a Dryad, put it near some Local Resources, hence farm? - Yes they could do that. No, it would hardly be farming because the game has an in-game timer preventing you from farming EXP through these rare discoveries. Also, I would argue that if they have a Dryad tied up next to multiple Local Resources, then they've earned it, AND it would be a good thing! The place that has that many rare discoveries in one location would be an in-game Holy Site. People would make pilgrimages to these places, hence attracting more players to the area.
- What about the factions that village claim over Local Resources? - This is only a small problem. Local Resources generally have a fair amount of distance between them. And you only need to SEE the Resource to get the EXP and points.

What should Enlightenment DO? - I want YOUR opinions, suggestions, and ideas on this!
- Just another Attribute in crafting?
- Reduced EXP cost of Hearth Magic?
- Tie it with the FATE system? - More Enlightenment = More FATE findings?
- Replace/ Tie it with the need of Charisma to Travel via Charterstone? Since you traveled a lot to raise your Enlightenment, it could be easier to travel via Charterstone.
- Other uses?

Also:
- Should Enlightenment be an invisible Attribute? Kind of like the way FATE (probably) works?
- What other things aside from Dryads and Local Resources should reward Enlightenment? Quests maybe?

That single line is, for me, the more enticing thing about this idea.
I love the 'atmosphere' of a subtle magic that the world and folklore of Haven has and this captures it perfectly.

A few thoughts:
Yes, like I told you yesterday, I think it should be a hidden attribute - something that we know we're raising but can't see it numerically. This adds to the "magic" of it.

Also, I think that perhaps it should be scaled in a way that the very first time something is discovered (a rare resource) it will give more "enlightment" than the following times it is discovered. That will make that the first people to ever see something will get the "More" out of it, which makes sense.

(Let's say: First person to see gets 10 Enl, second gets 6, third gets 3, following people get 1 each)

That will make it all the more important when you are the first one to find something - especially when finding underground rare resources, which you are pretty sure you are the first to see.

That said, it would be cool if it was used in the crafting of more "magical" things - things that use dreams and such, maybe rings or other magical artifacts...
And it could also be tied with fate, yes. That would be pretty cool.

It could have a counter effect as well, though - it could (very slightly) increase your chance to find other mystical things like.... trolls?

Who knows...

I agree that there needs to be more incentives to get out and about, at least.
