If you jump down too steep cliff there is chance that you will break your legs. Resulting to you only walking in crawling speed.
With splint you can also use walking speed. Broken leg would heal over time.

And if cliff is too high and you try to climb it. Your character would just run at it, then bump head into the cliff and die. (Or maybe only KO)
