non combat skills not lost on death

You keep non combat skills on death. This will make exclusively pvp characters less needed, and instead people who wish to play with one character won't be severely punished for it.
Of course you'd still lose non combat attributes, but at least it wouldnt be severe as losing 1000 farming skill because you wanted to pvp with that character. LoL
There is a massive difference between losing your ability to farm and craft because of a death, as opposed to losing the ability to pvp.

If you can no longer harvest your field or craft for fear of fucking it's quality from a death, you lose interest pretty quick.

Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

If you took a character with 1000 Farming into a fight then you kinda deserve to lose it. Never gamble more than you are willing to lose. Can't remember who said it but it holds true here.

Well, it's only an example. None i know has lost 1000 farming because they fought with the character. It just kind of proves my point.

I hear you but honestly if I already have the farmer and I want to PVP ill just make a PVP alt. I mean I personally would never gamble that much LP and Attributes etc on trying to kill others. Plus with another character you can hide them elsewhere and nidbanes arent an issue.

Wouldn't that kill the tactic of gunning for their civilian?

Which is why this idea holds water. People make farmer alts and combat alts anyway so right now when you die you only lose combat stats - obviously a massive plus for alting. Implementation of the idea still wouldn't make using 1 char quite as good as using 2 (since if you use 2 you can study 2x more curios than if you use 1) but it would be a massive hit to the alting meta and would let people use 1 main char for everything

Why would the civilian be online/outside of wall in first place?

They wouldnt. Crafting characters only die if the people in control of them are so stupid, that they keep themselves logged in afk, but don't check their walls. Basically jorbs levels of noobness.

Being stupid is not call for a new feature. Just as the devs said they will not replace a dead character this falls under that for me. If you were stupid its your own fault suck it up and start over.

A cure for stupidity isn't the point of this thread. The thread is about cutting away at the mandatory need for alts.
