Ya all items when placed in the belt take up one space inside the belt.

It already works like that.

I have a scythe(1x3) and a saw(1x2) in my belt right now. Its all about how you try to add it. For the scythe you need to click on the top box of it to pick it up and place it in the belt.

My only suggestion is Tsacks will go into a belt but wont automatically come back out. I think they should when you shift click stuff on the ground or from a stockpile. Auto swap when you go to pick up large quantities of stuff.

You can add gear to your shortcut bar to summon it back from the belt.
