Fish Node improvement.

Postby Jalpha » Tue Jan 10, 2017 2:54 am

Just something simple which would help improve the fishing experience.

Could the jumping fish animation be modified to display a collection of colours representative of the fish currently fishable from the node?

Fishing needs a lot of work but it's hard to make many suggestions when so much of the base mechanics of fishing are unknown and the current rewards are to low to counter the time investment which would be required.

Anyway I'm interested in any reasoning why this would be a bad idea because I can't see any downside.

So many of the fish look incredibly similar; as far as color is concerned. The carp and ruffe being a good example off the top of my head. I feel like that'd be a lot of work, making the new models and all that, for very little tangible benefit to the game. Especially right now with more pressing fixes being necessary.

Very doubtful that simple recoloration provides meaningful info and differentiation.

But you are open to the concept of adding some form of localised visual indicator which displays relevant and current data on fish node contents?

Sure, if it's meaningful, and if there's a good idea on how.

When building a well it has a certain amount of depth to it that determines the amount of materials needed to build it.
You could give water a depth level as well, which could be observed by inspecting the water. Something like, "You peer into the shallows and see a small fish swim past". You could make certain fish spawn in water of certain depths. Heck, could even go as far as adding sinkers and needing to use them for deeper waters.
Inspect could even glean clues about the fish we see. Like "you spot a large fish dart by" or something like that.

I think it's much more engaging to have a more appealing visual reference to display the data than just numbers alone. Maybe some item like polarised glasses combined with a skill and being tied to some stat/s. I don't know, I'll give it some thought.

Edit: Just noticed that you patched fishing. <3

fish type could be visually determined by different types of bugs/critters found floating/above the water.
