Satiations in early game (forage especially)

Postby Procne » Thu Jan 12, 2017 10:54 pm

After 5 days of playing my satiations look like this:

I'm still far away from getting tea to restore the forage satiation, and I have limited access to foods from other groups to bring 4 of them below 50%. I could, in theory, try to lower mushrooms and berries, but most of those foods also belong to forage category, so I would be getting no FEPs while getting a lot of hunger.

It seems that almost all foods available in the early game belong to forage group nad I'm having hard time getting stats now. I rely mostly on cooked fish now, but even then on cooked fillets and not fishwraps.
I think some balancing here would be nice. Maybe scrapping forage group completely, and just stay with berries, nuts and mushroom groups?
Or remove some foods from forage group:
- roasted rabbit / hedgehog / squirrel
- mushrooms
- rat on a stick
- nutjerky, fishwrap

or just give some means to restore forage group, available for new players.

Tea is super easy to get early, beer is a post-early game but not hard to get, Wine the same, Milk is midgame. For what all these do here:

For milk, just get a clover + bucket and find an auroch.

The first character I make usually turns into my forager shortly after the walls are up and the industry has been established mainly because by that point, my hunger % has been fucked into oblivion from all of the meat and foragables that I binged on to regain energy for leveling/tree chopping/building

I make a new character fresh, then grind its stats properly rather than waiting for my hunger to come back from 10-50%

It's sort of shit tbh, I wish we could just turn off FEP gains from foods so that you don't lose hunger % from eating, but instead you only gain energy.
Early world is terrible for stat grind

Here is mine.
I don't make slave alts or alts in general.
I don't really care much as its not stopping me from progressing in the game. Once I need to gain stats I'll just quest and get my hunger down.

I have plenty of milk but it doesn't help with forage satiation

For tea I need a herbalist table, which I don't have yet - I have planted my crops only recently because I had to move to a different place. And I couldn't dry the leaves on a drying rack. I think milk is much easier to get than tea.

Yeah, I'm considering this too.

edit: anyway, I'll manage. I'm not looking for advice here, just pointing out how satiations mechanic seems unbalanced in the early game. Instead of managing various satiation new player has to deal with this one monumental satiation - forage - which covers almost all foods available to a noob. I'm not sure that's how Jorb envisioned it.

I've also been running into this problem. I made a different suggestion to solve this with Hearth Magic.

I'm not happy with how satiations and drinks work at the moment, I'll leave it at that.
