This idea is basic. Dig a hole, put sharp sticks, spread some guts and wait untill someone will fall. Or it can be metal beartrap. Anyway we really lack ability to make a Vietnam hell for invaders.

People would just lay them everywhere and anyway custom clients would find a way around it.

The better options would be:
Snare traps that require perc*(something) vs Q of trap to see. Also useful for game.

And MAYBE take a page from Tree of Life and have automated arrow turrets that shoot slowly at anyone who attacks your base. Must be filled with arrows to function, stops when its out, and still isn't the 100% fix for offline defense.

I agree traps would be nice but again unless its needed to be built on claimed land etc the world would just be filled to the brim with traps since a lot of people just want to watch the world burn. Take a step, trap, take a step, trap, die to traps eventually, log out and loose all interest in HnH.
