what if nidbanes instead of murdering people would attempt to somehow retrieve stolen item (like if nidbane hits u for 3 times it steals the item or some of ur stuff) and vandal nidbanes would start bashing stuff once you log in and you would have to stop them??

Theft nidbane tries to steal item back = nobody will trust to trade because if people scent stuff they sell they can simply send spooky scary nidbane to get it back.

Vandalism has similar problems, how are you sure that it delivers appropriate punishment that targets the perpetrator?

Current method of nidbanes simply trying to kill the perpetrator isn't perfect but I can't think of anything better (barring fully sentient judge AI)

I get OP's intentions to make the lower level nidbanes more useful, but the way he has suggested it could be easily exploited and avoided with proper village setup.
Would be funny if there would be some other ways to use them.
