ability to improve soil quality

ability to improve soil quality

I think the way to improve soil quality locally in the selected area could be very helpful and natural. For example, we can generate mulch. Then mulch/compost/ash could be distributed in the selected area (similar to seeds), which would gradually beef up Q of soil.

What do you think ?

No because than you make infinite amount of 1000000000000q soil (I saw 600q mulch last world so).

That is cool - I understand. My suggestion is not to make soil 600q right away. But soil could get Q boost steadily through iterative slow process; for example - with some soft-cap or +0.1-1% of mulch/ash Q, etc.

You can already get soil replacement for treeplanter and gardening pots from compost bins.
Where would be the point in raising the ground soil quality?
(apart from the problem that the server would have to track it per tile instead of via a node)

Yes - I know how treeplanter pot works :)..... But the discussion is about the soil for crops which can fertilized (and it is in practice for thousands of years!). So, to get back on trail - the ability to improve soil quality for crops. Until we can not grow crops in gardening pots (unless somebody can - good for you ... :D) that option would be helpful

I'm not thrilled with how composts work now, and I wouldn't mind if it were possible to somehow raise the soil quality. Not sure I like the actually suggested mechanic, however.

Maybe if for "each" unique edible type it would increase the final mulch quality by a small % amount?

well, as it's possible to raise water ql, even if at a real high cost, why not with dirt, and maybe even stone and clay (actually, clay ql in real life can be raised by adding some things in it, like broken shells from wrongly fired items, seashells and bones, or even fine fibers from grass/hay).
