Roads decaying

Postby Attas » Thu Mar 02, 2017 3:10 am

Right now, the major factions (and even minor) have spammed dozens of roads that cross the world and may get one person to anywhere in the world within minutes. Of course building them takes an afternoon of work or two, but once it's done it's a free teleport across the world.

To stop this, I suggest that mini-milestones have a decay while on unclaimed territory. Below a certain point (let's say 50% of health) they wouldn't be able to be used anymore and would thus give its user the waylaid status when he gets to the broken mini-milestone. The person would then have to fix it (with either blocks of wood or stones) in order to make the mini-milestone functional once again.

Needless to say stone roads would decay slower than wooden ones.

+1

I agree that roads are way too strong for the small time investment it takes to make one. I really think there should be some upkeep involved.

I just want to teleport through gates man...

Also at least you had to have villages that were visible in order to teleport. And it had a maintanence cost as well as a stat cost not much but some.

They should at least cost a bit of travel weariness.

There's no reason to add an inherent annoyance factor to building roads. Roads are easy to build, and they're just as easy to mess up. If you don't like that a faction has a road across half the world, mess it up. Waylay it, palisade it, destroy it, build another road that waylays it, etc. Travelling across the boring world is boring, roads remove that, why would you make it annoying to have them?

This post screams "someone put in the effort to teleport around and I am too lazy to put in the same effort, pls nerf them!!! waaaahhh"

Crossroads were trash because there was no risk, it was literally a teleport - roads count as a "fast forward", where you can waylay the road and gank people porting on them, you can destroy the roads, etc.

Crossroads were imba, roads are nice. They can stay as they are.

If I'd change anything about roads it'd be replacing travel from endpoint to endpoint with travel from any point to any other point on the same road. Probably something using the map, and you have to have the road mapped out before you can travel, and if anything's changed from the last time you mapped the road you drop out of warp at the point of change. But as this is a huge buff to roads I'd also make them take more effort to build, ie you'd need to flatten and pave between the milestones.
