Spears and Quivers

Postby TheBadger » Sat Mar 11, 2017 1:57 pm

I've been intrigued with the idea of trying out the spear for a while, especially with it being throwable, but my main concern with doing so has been with suddenly finding yourself unarmed after having thrown it. Of course you can always carry multiple spears, but I had to ask myself... "Is there a better way?"

Perhaps make it so that a quiver can store spears, like a bundle of javelins? Perhaps even make it so you auto-draw a new spear after throwing one? And as for potentially spam throwing(especially at short/point blank range), perhaps make it so that since you have to draw a new spear with every throw, it ties into the combat cooldown of changing equips?

why? afaik all ranged weapons reduce the quality of the animal. throwing a spear is fast but a horse is more effective

Fun and Variety? A little something to encourage a little more diversity on combat styles. Spears seem kind of limited at the moment, as they don't seem to have the sheer power of the higher tier weapons and neither the selection of attacks of just using a sword. You CAN throw them, but it's cumbersome to carry several so you have spares to rely on until you can retrieve them.

I had honestly forgotten about the sotfcap caused by projectile weapons, though. That is unfortunate.

A spear quiver sounds at least a little bit strange.

Didn't some cavalry commonly have javelin quivers? I'm thinking Spanish, Moors and various Turkic peoples.

I've seen some that looked like saddle bags. But I don't know if people wore them.

I think this spear would be too long to be draw from man mounted quiver.

Mount & Blade has it and it doesn't look bad. I'd like to see these spear quivers simply because spear badly needs a buff. Making it a better ranged weapon could be a good start.
