Developer Critique - Social Media & General Online Presence

Postby Fierce_Deity » Tue Apr 18, 2017 5:56 am

Going to keep this post to the point. Developers of games have the ability to generate a lot of interest in their games by simply talking about it and sharing whats going on. Random forum post and the in the pipe messages are not cutting it. Getting a facebook page was a step in the right direction, but its not enough. Its time to start a blog, get some twitter accounts, hold community contest of some sort. The newest pictures on this sites 'Media' section are from 2015. Post more pictures on the main site and facebook, you see where i'm going with this. Jorb and loftar, you guys need to increase your online footprint, and not just on the forum. One of the main things that kept me interested in minecraft when it was early in development was notch's blog, 'The word of notch'. Word of mouth is nice and all, but its about time to stop break out of that box. Expand your online presence, give us some more tools to share the game and get people interested.

People want to hear more from you guys, anything really. Give us more ways to share the game. Hell, the only place havens facebook is listed is on a random forum post you made. Put it on the hompage at least.
Back me up here guys.

And as a side note, searching for Haven and Hearth on facebook does not pull up the official page because your page uses the '&' symbol. Maybe if you say Haven and Hearth in the description or something it will come up in relevant searches easier.

Personal aversion to propaganda, as I don't enjoy imposing on people/self aggrandizement/beating our own drum, which it always feels like, but I do increasingly see the legitimate need to spread the word and present the game.

Not denying any point made.

Not propaganda, just informing people that the game exists.

It's always propaganda. Telling someone "Haven and Hearth is a game that exists" doesn't work, and as soon as you say "it's good, you should try it" it becomes propaganda

informing people who whould be interested is key, the right forums and message boards and blogs chould go along way in my mind at least

some pvp players whould prob enjoy
farmville type player can enjoy a asspect of it
some creative game player whould enjoy it (minecraft, roblox, trove)
the crafting is pretty unique i chould see that chould be a potental route for something

i play 100 or so diffrent mobile games a month so i tend to try to spread the game throu that but its not wide spread lol

Unfortunate reality of game dev :/ My taste of paradox via Salem moderation made me realize the gaming marketing world is just as scummy as any other kind of marketing in general.

I know you've mentioned feelings on it in the past (which I'll be honest I'm hazy about recollecting), but due to lack of funds to do a large promotional "launch" I always kind of figured the eventual path was to piggyback on low capital upfront marketing via steam at some point. Assuming that interactions with Paradox didn't notably close doors with regards to steam, which if I recall correctly was at least threatened.

Yeah this would help the game alot , more people coming in = more player base = more player interaction but also more players = more people buying stuff from the store = more money for the devs = happy devs , the haven comunity is quite friendly at this point at least on a better half but new people coming in is always nice , also it's more fodder to back the devs up :D

I kind of want to see the non-permadeath avenue explored before there's a jump in playerbase (and an increase in pvp oriented content to pair with). Haven burns through too many of its players right now, steam is kind of a "one big shot" type thing (and so is any other kind of more traditional marketing with dollars sunk in). If the playerbase is large enough to fund the devs in the short term, I still feel ironing that out first makes sense.

The game has grown leaps and bounds over the past 2 years, it feels much more fleshed out now.
