Rekindling Questgivers

Postby DaniAngione » Tue Apr 18, 2017 6:21 am

I propose a new effect for the "Commune with Nature" spell: rekindling questgivers.
Or whispering back their lives, in a way.

How could that work:
Whenever a questgiver is killed (either a tree or boulder) the immediate area around it (like 1~2 tiles on each direction at most) could keep its spirit so, if a new tree is planted in that area (or if a boulder is carried and placed on it), using the spell Commune with Nature next to it would "bring back" that questgiver.

Also, quests wouldn't fail when a questgiver dies but rather "update" to a halted status showing where the questgiver was exactly, so it's easier to replant/bring back boulders.

I think that would be kind of neat and is part of an effort of coming up with ideas for more persistent/eternal worlds :3

Something I've been wondering: Once a quest giver dies, is it gone? Or does the game generate new ones in areas that are generally lacking them.

Every time a new character spawns a new quest giver appears. When a quest giver is destroyed it is permanently dead.

Does it spawn in the area the new player is born? Or just "somewhere in the world ~~~" type idea.

#1
I agree it spirit should be able to claim another tree in area.

#2
Tree planting is usually made only inside of villages / claims, so it would be possible that after a large waste of time (or not) many quest givers would be claimed by private people or villages and rest of people would probably be told to kindly fuck off. So, I'm not fan of that one. Unless, spirit will possess "non-claimed" planted tree.

#3
When a boulder is chipped down to 69%, it kill quest giver so moving them is no longer possible, neither placing big boulders is possible for us, players, I believe.

Something like this could be interesting, as a random chance if nothing else. Will consider!
