Will this game ever be ported to Steam ?

Postby Dogelol » Mon Apr 24, 2017 8:43 pm

I think that this game being ported to Steam may cause some Pros and Cons as in Spamming in the Chat, extremely annoying people and many other things.
But will this game be Ported to Steam or something similar to it ?

Why would this game be taken to steam?
Only thing that steam might offer are users. But these days steam is just full of games. You dont get that much visibility really.

yes one day, Jorb and loftar have plans.

but frankly we are pushing em' for updates and telling em' not yet for steam.
They were like ' ' this close to doing it this world.

again, this game NEEDS more before steam and a new world.
Also the community needs to sort it's self out.

Not to say many players would bounce off anyway. Casuals and nabs are fastly punished without decent support from whiteknights or big luck. Unless this world get a bit bigger.

why would it
J&L have their own distribution method already set up. Going to steam does not offer anything but valve taking slice of their profits.

I agree.
You can literally get any shit on steam these days, and they are planning to do it even easier.
It will change to google-play like model where you just pay some sum of money and you can get whatever application you want there.

Back in the days it was at least somekind of honor to have your game on steam through successful greenlight or some thing.

Mmm... no. If J&L get into a steam promotion deal, I can guarentee you most of those players seeing the popup have never heard of it. Majority of people I talk to who play games of this genre (sandbox builder) have never heard of HnH. I've introduced about 10-15 people to the game over the years, and a bunch more got scared off when I mention permadeath.

Takeaway here is that A) Many people who play this genre of game have no idea that Haven exists, and B) Steam as a result has a potentially large well of customers to tap into.

However, I'm not privy to what's entailed to get a game promoted via steam. I do know they typically take cuts of 30% or so from things bought within steam. Not sure what that looks like for MMOs that have stores setup outside of steam. EVE is a good example I'm aware of (subs can be purchased via steam, but you can also go around steam to their normal store). Baseline promotion is pretty small and might account for a trickle of players.

I don't think haven should launch to steam so long as J&L aren't starving until the vanilla client is deemed "acceptable" to start on. There's a bare minimum set of features custom clients have that the vanilla needs before it makes sense to launch in my opinion anyway. I know they've been adding functionality to it so that's a good start.
Lucky: haven is so quirky
Lucky: can be so ugly, can be so heartwarming

Eve on steam is just stupid.
It does not work that well, most people who are using steam for eve regret it.
