Graphics

Ok, so today I found an older ProJared video about this game. It looked really nice and fun. The pixel art was fantastic. WHY THE HELL DID THEY CHANGE IT TO THIS CRAP! :?: :x If there is an actual reason for this I understand, but the pixel art looked 50 times better.

I can agree that the old art design was more consistent....now there are some stuff really good and some not that good, such as trees, animals, etc...generally the new added stuff is better looking than the old one...so I agree that Jorb one day should focus on updating the whole art design at the same level.
But I cannot agree that the old graphic is better than the new one, for obvious reasons the new graphic is way better to me, more details, more colours, effects, 3D, shaders, etc...more stuff over all.
Generally speaking this game is a very beautiful looking game to me. And the new haven even more than the old.

To answer your question specifically, without referencing the subjective qualities of the art, the objective reasons were:
  • To make it possible to rotate objects
  • To make it possible to rotate the camera
  • To make it possible to have more animations and creatures without combinatorially exploding sprite sheets

  • Because it looks objectively better.

I have to say, the art has been improving since it switched to 3d. Most of the more recent animals look fairly spot on, while a couple of the older ones look a little wonky.

I miss some of the style of the older haven though, where it was significantly cute-sier as an amusing juxtaposition to the harshness of the game.

I'll never understand why Jorb and Loftar feel the need to comment on such a hostile and stupid thread.

Cause they are good men :D....this guy wanted attentions and they gave to him.
Btw for the OP, Loftar is working on optimizations, so maybe you can also play this game soon.

Even if the post is hostile, the question when isolated from such intent is somewhat legitimate. I also recognize that 3D isn't strictly better. There are tradeoffs in either direction -- after evaluating those we've chosen to go with 3D, and expounding the reasons for doing so isn't necessarily bad even if the OP is.

Not to mention a sincere reply sometimes takes the edge off some peoples' hostility, something that perhaps a few people on the forums could learn a thing or two about. Just sayin'.

Do you know about Tree of Savior....new game, technically fully 3D, but fixed camera, 8 movement directions sprites, etc.......they made a fake 2D game even if fully 3D, the art is very beautiful and I think it's interesting to point out.
