Two small issues with criminal scents/being raided

Postby Sevenless » Sat Jun 03, 2017 11:56 pm

So about 3 weeks ago I got raided, cause I'm dumb. I cracked my outer wall to remodel, someone was watching and hand bashed the newly drying wall. Since they were a solo raider, the SHP system prevented a total ransack of my base. They stole metal and currency items, left everything else untouched. Quite refreshing compared to olden days, but multiple characters could have significantly increased the damage I took. That aside, I came across an issue: Once a wall has a hole in it, so long as the perpetrator is willing to spend a scent per day or so for bashing, the hole can never be closed. There is nothing the defender can do to make the hole dry to the point where it isn't handbashable. It felt off to me during the 2ish days where the wall was handbashable, that there wasn't really a "recovery" mechanic other than to quit playing and wait for it to dry. Maybe walls sitting beside fully dried walls should dry faster? I'm not really 100% sure about the ramifications of that mechanic, but the current situation feels weird. It's not a huge issue because claim shields are so strong it's rare someone actually gets raided right now.

I'm pretty sure this has been said, but having to force quit your client because you want to shut the client down or switch characters when scented feels unpolished. A confirmation dialog box informing you that your character will remain in the world would feel better from a player point of view.

That's the reason why I always make a second layer to any settlement I do. :P

I did preface this by saying I gone dumb with getting raided. I ain't complaining about that.

But lets take a true raid situation. Both layers of walls breached by rams/catapults. Defender ends up in the same situation I was in.

That's the way the game is and I think it should remain.

Then it means if ''raider'' is perseverant enough you deserve bashed walls daily.

Don't like it? Fix it by guarding them :D

Can't? Then left to mercy of destroyer.

Now for most people this wouldn't be a problem since they either get raided once and then interest is lost, but if you have actual enemies why should some noob mechanic help..

The fact that palissade can't be handbashed after dried is already ridiculous enough if you think about it.

Steel sledgehammers and insane strength cannot damage your bunch of blocks which happen to have a few cornerposts... ''such walls'' :P

Maybe for brickwall there would be room for it, to have it able to be repaired if attached to already dry wall segments while charging 10 bars of steel per tile to make it instantly dry of course :D

The scented and clicking away client thing I agree with is pretty stupid, on one of my desktop pcs I even have to open task manager because client keeps running weirdly in the background and if I don't end it like this they stack and give me lagg after switching chars a few times..

While the solution indeed could be a simple confirmation message..

No, I am quite certain the ability to return every single day and repeatedly harass a group or person by constantly hand-bashing one portion of wall that takes 24-48 hours to fully dry is not a good mechanic. If the shield mechanic wasn't going to end up removed I would even suggest that a claim with full/active shield should NOT allow for hand bashing walls.

Palibashing encouraged casual raiding. Casual raiding contributed to what someone referred to as "Old players preying on new players as content", and that's not exactly a healthy or stable longterm balance.

Made it so that the first wall segment in an extension has a shorter drying time (~12hrs) if it is built adjacent to an already wholly dried wall segment. Do note that this applies to the first segment of the extension only, rather than to a whole extension.

maybe it should be a bit faster but eventually the wall should fully close up again unless they REALLY wanna fuck with you but coming back that often for it would be pretty annoying heh

That's sort of what I had in mind as well. I don't think this is abusable, and it would help solve this issue to a degree (the gap would eventually close, at least it'd be much harder to keep open).
