If you claim or build around\block a mother of pearl you get a wound called Orange Chunk. Every day it takes 1 hhp and is unhealable. It can only stop getting worse if you apply toad butter on the mother of pearl and then delete the thing blocking it.

And if you claim or build around\block a Heart of the Woods , you get a wound called Splinter in the Ass (you can't run and travel far and long)? If you claim or build around\block Guano Pile, above your character appears the inscription "Guanoeater", etc.

In principle, I agree, but why only Mother of Pearls?

For this to work you'd have to define "around" when it terms of building, if you lets say "within 50tiles of the node" then some factions would build with a 50tile parameter around that said node with no claim touching it, no matter which way it goes, still possible to lock in nodes, unless they make a thing where Nodes can't have a complete wall over them or else decaying factor no matter how big the size.

It could send out a pathfinder thing in all directions that acts as a unknown player and if obstructed, it inflicts the wound

really though there should be no way to barricade, block or prevent usage of a natural resource

the game knows when a box is being formed, even by claimed objects, and some stupid ass thing like an ent can just come by and annihilate it
