Community poll: subtokens

Postby newaccountlol » Fri Aug 04, 2017 4:02 am

We all know the devs and many players think subtokens are a necessarily evil and that nobody is truly pro-subtoken. But let's get an idea of how many people actually hate subtokens, so that maybe we can push the argument that they are actually hurting the dev's wallet in the long-run.

Something like this might be worth a try just to see if more people are buying subtokens for their friends or just trying to sell them. It could be a great compromise for the time being. +1

I'm pro sub-tokens. They are a necessity otherwise people will make more obscure deals under the scene.

Trades will occur no matter your opinion. This is the only way the developper get's paid, people sending money to eachother doesn't support game.

This.

Not sure what's evil about them, unless a person thinks any attempts at trading "real money" for virtual items is evil... In that case, why is that person playing a video game as a subscriber as that's exactly what you're doing. ¦]
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

Typical excuses. Yes it will always happen but that's no reason to encourage it. Yes it's how the developers get paid but there should be a better system some day.

It's not the same thing anyway. If people are doing transactions themselves it requires something of value to be removed from the game, time spent, player interaction, etc... It's more natural to the economy and the game IMO.

It could still be controlled within reason. If the developers banned anyone caught selling, posting links to sites, etc, the sellers would have to launder their money/items, creating more work for them, raising the price for the buyer, making it less common, etc...

With a reporting system in place it would not add too much extra work for the developers. If these actions were condemned by the community then the community would essentially be able to police itself.

Sub tokens are an intelligent way to gain funding for this game. Eve Online has done it(Plex), and ArchAge has done it (Apex) to great success. To be quite honest without subtokens, the developers would like miss out on a lot of cash and have a more prominent RMT market, that they gain no benefit from.

Truth is, IMO, many companies and games would benefit by taking advantage of their RMT markets more, instead of trying to destroy them, because you really can't stamp out a market once it forms, just makes everything more expensive for those participating in said market. Other ways I see a company benefiting from an RMT market besides tokens, is a company could provide an easy service to exchange in game goods for cash, and taking a tax off the transactions. Which in a way is what a sub token does, but at a set prices, versus a percentage based tax.

So in conclusion, sub tokens aren't evil, they'retaking advantage of a player's natural selfishness and funding the game which we all enjoy.
