Encouraging Roleplay

Postby Ants » Sun Aug 13, 2017 2:08 am

One way of preventing people from getting bored with the game would be to foster a good roleplaying community. People would stay for the sake of interacting with others.

But how could we do that? Do you guys have any ideas to make the game more attractive to roleplayers?
I think the first step would be to add more character customization options and more outfits. It's hard to RP well when everyone looks so similar.

I would suggest a look at the Screenshot of W10 topic, there seem quite some that lean toward roleplay instead of efficiency. To make the game more attractive to roleplayer could work by spreading the images of the larpy settlements posted there - instead of high-efficiency setups and optimum-approach howtos.

Something that would definitely help would be more paint colors and more uses for custom sketches. Wallpaper has a lot of potential to create larpy locations but as things are, it's difficult to make any that won't burn your retinas off because the colors are so bright. We definitely need some grey and some brown, at the very least. And it would be great if we could paint the floors as well as the walls.

Good idea. I'll upload larpy pictures to the wiki to inspire people. When I get my hands on some pigments I'll start a thread devoted to posting free wallpaper for others to use.

You've got to add the motivation to roleplay first.
- much bigger player-base, so that factions would work on the hierarchy and role play;
- vassals, kingdoms, aristocracy, knighthood a working system
- make mechanics that would make taverns work, make museums ticket systems, being a musician, artist or whatever a feasible way of living and etc. If there is no mechanics making it easier and feasable for the players to roleplay, no-one would do it. Focusing on simple clothing will lead to nowhere.

Yeah, you're right. I think the basics could be done even with a small playerbase, though.

It's hard to roleplay stuff with the friends and enemies you've been playing with for more than 5 years. While it'd be more natural and less awkward with the new players.
