Cool it with the risk of losing your lure when fishing

Postby SacreDoom » Thu Aug 31, 2017 10:35 am

I've just counted over 100 consecutive losses of decent quality lure when fishing for silver bream at 56% chance without a single fish caught. I feel like this is needlessly punishing. Why would I ever bother chasing inferior FEPs if it takes me sixty years and countless lures to obtain a single fish? Calm the fuck down with the chance of you losing your lure. The frankly insanely excessive level of risk here makes me inclined to think this might even be a bug. I know that some fish tend to eat some lures, but yeesh, 0 fish caught and >100 lures lost is just silly.

Also am I misunderstanding what the percentage represents? Because if it's the chance to catch the fish I'm either the unluckiest sod in the world or something's out of whack.

You are not alone. I also hate a Primitive Casting-Rod because of an incredibly small chance, so I usually use a Bushcraft Fishingpole. Subjective chance of success:
Primitive Casting-Rod - 5% (regardless of the chance shown)
Bushcraft Fishingpole - 75%
Perhaps there are some nuances that I do not know when fishing with Primitive Casting-Rod. I always thought that I was just not lucky.

You''re using the wrong lure for the wrong fish. I can get like twenty eels on a single rock lobster.

I used different baits for one type of fish. The percentages on the right vary, but most often the changes are minor. And at a value above 50%, I usually don't catch anything and lose bait.

The catch chance has nothing to do with lure loss chance, other than actually getting it to roll. AFAIK catch chance determines if you actually get a bite, and loss chance is a separate hidden value for each fish-lure combo, so if you're fishing for silver bream and they got 90% chance to eat your lure, you'll lose your lure 90% of the time you get a bite, no matter if the catch chance shown on fishing dialog is 1% or 100%. So basically you have to find a lure that your target fish will bite but won't eat.

Loss of bait is secondary to me. The problem is that with several dozen fish biting, I don't get a single caught. Percent on the right is not a chance to catch? A lot of time wasted: the fish is constantly leaving.

i dont even touch my casting rod for this exact reason. damn things like 60q higher than my fishingpole, and catches q10 fish that claim to have a chance of 70-90% as though every fish weighs 30lbs and is snapping my line. turn on the autofish pole, and all of a sudden my inventory is overflowing with q30+ fish where the other pole was grabbing q10 in a 1-15 chance.

You are just using casting rod wrong. It's a rustroot extract analogue for the fish. You use it to get a list of fish you can possibly get at that spot. Then you go and fish with normal rod :)
Lure fishing is broken and should not be used by anyone.

I just wish loftar removed it as a rod and added it as an investigation item that shows all fish in current spot.

I use it just about the same ... but the indicator is also not the best because of the dependence of the bait.
I thought that only I was so unlucky.

Seriously, use a better lure for your fish. Eel virtually never eat rock lobster, and AFAIK every fish has a lure that can catch it but won't get eaten. You can get a lot more of a specific fish with a rod than with a pole.
