Slime Usage

Postby DreadDawson » Fri Sep 22, 2017 3:50 pm

Just two interesting ideas I saw on the update post with slimes, I thought that they deserved a topic in C&I, so here we are.

Slimes as a Fuel Source:

Alternative fuel source for torches. Possibly other things that tar or sticks could be used for, but I worry that this could increase the q grind to quickly.
Another possible way this could be, is if slimes could be added to tar kilns, but produce much more tar than either blocks or boards. If this method was used, maybe they do not produce any coal.

There is more that can be done with this, but I feel like this is a good starting point.

Slime Glue:

Allow slime balls to be crafted into glue. Not sure what the recipe would be, but as suggested in the update post...
5 Slimes + 1L water = 1 unprepared slime glue.
It was suggested that this would then be dried on a herbalist table, but I think that wouldn't work as it would just dry the glue out. An idea I had would be to boil the glue, like you would bone glue. Or possibly put it on a drying rack to stretch the glue out. Would be interesting if the glue slowly extends out visually.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

These ideas are not mine originally, I just thought that C&I would be a better place for them, than the update post.

Personally I'm hoping for more colors of Slimes, as well as alchemy. We got all sorts of drugs now and hopefully boar snuff in the future, how about more with slime?

I was hoping slime could be used as a substitute for solid fat in cooking recipes. Would be cool.

I do agree that there should be a secondary use. I'm willing to bet there is a secondary use and no one has found it yet

Slimes should not be a main substitute for anything.

+ since slimes do dmg by touching you. we can already assume they are toxic.
So I do not think eating would be a good idea, lol.

I would rather that slimes didn't make their way into the "main economy" - I like (in an aesthetic sense) the way obviously magical things are either curiosities, marginally relevant (prayers) or rare (trolls, etc) in this game.

If they are toxic/acidic, I am sure there are a few crafts that can make use of it. Like etching metal or refining substances.

I once played a Rimworld mod that had that same idea. It could be interesting to see little cork-sealed bottles of the stuff LoZ style. Or maybe...

Poison-tipped arrows confirmed!
If you have nothing to make, then maybe it is still something. Why? Because you possess the idea that you wish to make something from nothing.
