dowsing rod rework

would like to see the dowsing rod come back into use by also giving a number on Quality

better quality = better accurate number for instance:

10Q dowsing rod = 50 point range water quality as a random number in between actual quality(actual water Q is 30, the dowsing rod would give a number between 0 and 80)
50Q dowsing rod = 5 point range water quality as a random number in between actual quality(actual water Q is 30, the dowsing rod would give a number between 25 and 35)

currently it costs 2 boughs and a dream. it could be changed to a better version via copper nuggets and a dream or increase the skill level to produce, IE(boughQ + dreamQ) / 6

No. Dowsing rod should never be able to point toward water quality, especially not toward higher quality than the rod itself.
Reasoning: This would only lead to first week quick-claim anything that might be of value.

so then would you be ok with the rod only identifying the water Q up to it's own Quality?

Honestly: not even that. This is imho a bad idea as it could (thus would) be zerg'ed (or automated).

well, I wasn't thinking on the aspect of zerg'n

I just Really hate making a ton of wells to find the best water Q in my land :(

So far I have made a total of 7 wells to try and pinpoint best Q so I can begin "digging deeper"(over a grand of rocks and at least 250+ ropes have been used so far)

Perhaps instead of leading you to a point of quality, it could just show you the quality of the potential well. It wouldn't be much different than going around scouting for clay nodes or water nodes. Simply it would take a dowsing rod. Personally, I would love to see a dowsing rod rework.

mb just make water Q = EXP spent (40q = 20k 50q=50k 60q=100k ... )

Dowsing rod should just check water q underneath your feet, capped by rod q and survival.

It's no different than being able to check soil q or clay q, you just need a tool now.

Honestly if it's too OP then increase the dowsing rod requirements to something more meaningful

Then we add a hearth magic cost and make it high enough to prevent zerging.

Dowsing rods are currently meh, and well spamming is worse.
