Horses + Houses = AIDS

Postby jordancoles » Wed Oct 18, 2017 8:13 pm

The majority of players keep their hearthfires indoors, and that same majority rides horses regularly.
Horses are not able to go up cellars, or up/down stairs. They also have a lot of trouble with doors.

In my case (a greathall), every time I port to my hearthfire I need to leash my horse, go down the steps (then hope it doesn't bodyblock me), head outside, unleash the horse (it usually runs away somewhere in the plot at this point), and then get back on to it.
Do this a few hundred times and you begin to hate horses.

Could something be done to make it possible for us to go up down stairs/cellars while on horseback?

I would like to second this. I purposely keep my hearthfire outside of my house because it is such a pain in the ass to use a horse inside a house. Nevermind the sideways trick you gotta do to get through doors, or caves(which can also be a pain in the ass).

I'm a pro sideway door opener by now.

So... you're suggesting that horses should be maneuverable in tight areas as easily as if you were by foot?

Here's a fix, no indoor hearthfire... wouldn't want to burn your place down.

Personally I think a better solution would be that when you port home the animal appears outside of your house if the hf is indoors. I really dislike the whole horses/cows inside thing, since when do you bring a horse inside your house, let alone up and down the stairs, it just doesn't make any sense to me and I've always disliked it.

So whilst I agree that it is a pain getting them in and out, I don't think it should apply in the first place. I have my hf underground but like KaiMolan, I keep it ouside of the houses, I learnt that after the hassle with them from last world!

I don't necessarily disagree with this, but I'm not sure if it's worth it at the cost of making teleporting rules more complex.

Magic doesn't burn or your hearthling would have no balls left.

Taking it a bit far I think. What we really want is to not have to position a horse in funny ways to go through a doorway. Having to line up close to the wall is obnoxious and kind of clunky. The horses model does not act as an extension of the players bounding box when interacting with things like doors or containers even. And maybe it shouldn't, but it'd be nice to be able to get out of the house in than 20 clicks.
