Potionology

Postby delsus » Fri Oct 27, 2017 1:43 pm

Hello,

After gemology, the logical following thing would be potionology.
Based on the same system, size and quality. (tiny-jotun / rough-brillant) but with other names fitting for potions.
They would give some small temporary buffs "like +2 STR for 5 minutes"

You would need for example spring water and different herbs (ones that preferably can't be gardened, so people would forage more)

Size would determine how potent is the buff and quality how long the buff lasts.

That's just an idea.
Tell me what you think :)

But I feel that alchemy or something like that would be a better name

How about not a shitty potions, but something that would combine farming with foraging.
For example - herbal teas, some could be made only with foraged herbs, some are mix of tea and wild herbs, some work better when hot, some when cold, special clay, wood, rock containers for different ones, etc.

+1.
Concoctions, tinctures, herbal teas etc.
One example of effect for a drink: Reduce stamina drain per labor action by 20% for 10-15 minutes.
Or some variations of diverse and useful reductions and bonuses other that simply giving +3 str or other stuff like that.

I would greatly appreciate a system where brewing together different ingredients would yield different results based on the active bonus defined for the ingredient instead of predefined potions (look at elder scrolls for instance). Some other ingredients could act as catalyst for concoctions that require some waiting before the final product is finished.

In a recent patch, they hinted that they will add more liquids (like swamp water and such)

There's definitely some opportunity there to delve into Alchemy.
“We still, alas, cannot forestall it-
This dreadful ailment's heavy toll;
The spleen is what the English call it,
We call it simply, Russian soul.”

An idea to consider: Tedium, a Feature.
