Briars and Thorny Plants

Briars and Thorny Plants

Postby Adder1234 » Mon Oct 30, 2017 8:43 am

I recently did a bunch of gardening work in real life and considered the idea of thorny plants in haven. In particular I would like to see plants like sweet briars added, either as a bush or foragable. Their flowers could be early world curios.

I would also like to see thorny plants expanded upon in general. Blackberries are already in the game, but I think that they could be expanded on a bit. Originally I wanted to propose the idea of thorny plants having a possibility of giving a small injury to the person harvesting them, but that would just make people use alts.

Maybe briars could be a rare foragable curiosity that has a possibility of giving a "scrapes and cuts" wound to the person who picks it. Anyway, it's just an idea I had and I'm interested to see if anyone else has had any similar ideas.

No thanks. You''ll never learn to truly loathe thorny bushes until you crash your bike into one. Each movement is more painful than the last. Oklahoma has waaay too much of this bullshit.
“We still, alas, cannot forestall it-
This dreadful ailment's heavy toll;
The spleen is what the English call it,
We call it simply, Russian soul.”

An idea to consider: Tedium, a Feature.

I fell into a wild blackberry bush on my families farm three years ago. Trust me I know how much thorny bushes suck.

I got thrown off my horse into a huge patch of brambles, I was wearing shorts at the time ... my legs were shredded ... :(

But yeah, no objection to more thorny plants, we used to have the thicket biome in legacy, an updated version of it here, including cuts and scrapes would be ok.

I think we all have recollections of crashing into something thorny as kids.

However, it's a game, and the wounds are annoying enough as it is. Don't give them any more ideas for annoyances like this, please. People already avoid hedgehogs and crabs if they don't need them.

^^ Whilst I agree that a lot of the injuries are annoying, we were talking scrapes and cuts here, all you need to do is stick a bit of yarrow on them and they are gone, it's hardly the same as the dex penalty that you would get from crabs. :?

Briar is a mid level herb and thorny thistle is an early one already, though.

Do note that "thorny thistle" is a flower, too, and is stockpiled with "flowers."
