Slime Oil

Postby DaniAngione » Tue Oct 31, 2017 6:28 am

Greetings :3

So... I came up with this idea after a phrase from a dear friend (and a villager) kinda made me feel sad/bad. Before I quote it, I'd like to say that even though I agree Slimes needed/need a bit of a nerf, I was never one of the people that complained in the forums about it. It felt like an interesting challenge and I embraced it - but this phrase changed my mind about it a bit:

"I'm really sad... Because mining is the thing I like the most in this game, I don't like fighting at all... And now they ruined it."

When I digested the phrase I realized that he was right, in a way. Some people like fighting, some don't. It's natural.
The thing is - you don't need to fight if you like farming, you don't need to fight if you like cooking, you don't need to fight if you like crafting, etc... Haven has always been interesting in terms of larger groups/villages because it gives the possibilities of people to specialize and enjoy the things they like to do without ever having to touch other things. And with communal areas/markets and such, this expanded even more, even allowing hermits or small villages to benefit from specializing in something without needing to worry about something else. So I can produce really good wine and sell it to buy the metal I need, without needing to mine - for example.

And then... Slimes.
They changed mining, they basically added obligatory - even if basic - fighting capabilities to what a miner is (and could be) in Haven. And this somewhat doesn't... Hmmm... feels right in relation to the other "civil" activities in the game.
So, with all that in mind...

THE SLIME OIL!
The idea behind the slime oil is basically:

- Give back to miners the pleasure of mining without worrying about slimes;
- Give to fighters and hunters the role of fighting and hunting, which should be theirs anyway
- Still keep slimes as a challenge/threat and still make it necessary to kill them and overcome the "challenges of the mines" to progress/mine/etc.

It's a very simple idea:
A craftable item, like a medicine, that can be applied to yourself and will make you immune to slimes for a certain time (time can depend on Q, shown as a buff);
By immune I mean: they won't attack you - as if you were wearing a "bat wing" cape, but made for slimes.
And, to craft that oil, you use the slime ichor dropped by the slimes!

Pretty simple.
Hunters/fighters kill slimes. Make oil, supply miners. Everyone is happy within their roles and no more slimy surprises :D

"I'm really sad... Because mining is the thing I like the most in this game, I don't like fighting at all... And now they ruined it."

Maybe, just maybe... instead of nerf-nerfing everything or providing the ways for the procrastinators to avoid learning the combat, the devs should focus on making the system more user-friendly? Implementing dummies and universal defence/attack moves (efficient only until 100-150 stats) would help the people a lot.

I am for making the community to learn to fight, because:
- Regardless of what people shout on the forum, it is impossible to catch up or get close to the factions in any terms if people do not know how to fight. You may spend 1000 of working hours on nerfing factions, but in the end, nothing will change. Factions > everyone else, because they know how to fight and got the experience. The new communities could compete only if they would know PvP/PvE and get used to it. The change in the community's mindset will lead to proper politics since there would be more organised forces and local neighbourhoods. Stat caps and whatsoever done 0 in terms of nurturing new factions.

- Less whining on the forum from the "peaceful" people who do not know how to PvP folk, so the devs could focus on more relevant things that would lead to a more dynamic and lively world. At this point, there is enough content for the newcomers and mid-level players. What the game is lacking is the things that could flip the server dynamics at the macro-scale. Wasting time on another "slime" oil is just meh, IMHO. That time could be used to optimize the process of hosting events, taverns, inns, fights, kingdoms, social structures and etc. Which will make them accessible for the larger number of players, not only to chosen 2-3 no-lifer factions with large human sources in hand.

as for fighting - punch, take aim, chop - that's all a person needs to know about fighting to kill every enemy in game including mammoths and trolls, you only need high enough stats, and in truth I don't care about learning any more.

as for slime - the idea of a no agro something for slimes like the bat wing for bats had been introduced the day slime had been introduced and I don't see it being implemented. They were introduced as means of nerfing the mining bots, if you remove their agro ability you could just as well remove them all together.

So you hate slime, well I hate them too, but unfortunately it seems we can't have nice things like combat free mining because some assholes just need to bot their way through the game.

If slimes were added to combat bots why not add it to a credo, like cave hermit 5th tier, 210 quests to be immune from the buggers seems a good comprise. factions will always have a way around these things so making a credo tier gives people another route to combat these things. Hell maybe make a druid credo that makes credos less likely to smack you etc.

Suiciding is likely to get nerf.
100% likely infact.
but atm it's a good way to get past barriers and test the new creedos.

I personally enjoy every aspect of the game, so the slimes don't bother me and I enjoy that it breaks up the tedium of mining. Though I'd like to see other things break up the tedium of other jobs, like crows attacking farmers and whatnot to make warriors more useful and needed other than to fight other warriors. Wouldn't mind seeing NPC raids on villages for that matter.

However I also like the idea behind the slime oil and think it creates a product for warriors to market, and wouldn't mind seeing more repellants, and possibly even products that make animals more likely to seek you out(Deer Pheromones anyone?).
