Tweak chicken coop (decrease managment)

Postby LagannPM » Sun Dec 03, 2017 10:56 am

Since quality of laid eggs is higly differ and quality of brooding chicken doesnt affect quality of chicks, and managing chicken coops is pain in the ass (constant alignment, etc...) i suggest rework chicken coop's interface:
Remove some slots and add them as nest boxes which only accept eggs.
Eggs in nest box are always incubating(dont want egg to hatch - remove it).
here's the examples...

i quite literally gave up on the chickens, its a hassle to manage, and I have enough stuff to manage already.

These already exist in the form of the 4 slots under a chicken (not roosters), given the 'transfer all of that kind' in amber the management is no real issue. IMHO, YMMV.

Also your setup wouldn't work as the chicks would have no room to grow into.

Chicks could stay in nest if there is no free space present.
Point is not to ease egg handling but chickens, you have to manualy transfer every chicken in place to efficently gain eggs. When i comes to quality rising you'll need to replace chickens every day with new ones. It becomes irritating chore.
I just want to shift-click chickens to replace them and not to think about everytime is there a free space bellow them.
Its a game after all.

As far as what I know about how the devs think: most likely a case of won't happen.

It is quite easy IMHO to set them up once so you can shift-click the hens and cocks in and out without problems.

In case you need a hint on how to approach efficient management:
  • For egg coops (without a cock) you can use dead chicken (which are different to alive ones) to limit the spaces where chickens can go - might cut down the free space in the coop for eggs a bit a but emptying it daily of eggs solves that problem (as we don't have turbo chicken that lay eggs on a hourly basis).
  • For breeding coops you can simply click in additional chicks to fill the empty spaces prior to clicking out the hens and clicking in better ones (same for the cock in the middle), when done click out all the chicks (which you would move into a hatching coop anyway, so they have room to grow) and lower quality eggs that you don't want to hatch.
  • Raising coops (for chicks): just fill only the upper two lines.
