I would be okay with this if they cost $100 each.

Team fortress 2 has (had?) a cosmetic ring which you can gift to someone for 100 bucks. Each time someone gifted a ring a small alert appeared with a short message from the buyer, usually to the recipient. Still, even at 100 bucks that message alert got old really quick.

$100 for a single message, rendered like the global messages from the devs ('server is going down in ... for restart') just with the account name that sends it in the header, rendered as pure text, character limit like twitter.

I could live with clicking that window away, being happy in the knowledge that the devs have food on the table today.
