fishing with boar spear

spear fishing IS period, though i think a fishing spear should be more appropriate than a boar spear and easier to make than a fishing pole, and not act as a weapon.

I like the idea, but the spear should still break sometimes and require a good amount of material since it would just turn useless the fishing rods if they were unbreakable.. Maybe like some iron nugget / stone, rope ( instead of string ) and block of wood ?

Or just add fishing spears. Cheap, easy to make, and can also be used as an inaccurate ranged weapon against normal enemies.

here's my argument against this. a fishing spear can be as simple as a sharpened stick. SO much easier to make than a fishing pole which requires string, stick and hook. having it require string or metal or even rope means that you might as well skip straight to fishing pole for the resources required. after the pole, the spear would be garbage unless you could make a spear cooked fish out of a fish and a fishing spear... kinda like a rat on a stick.
