Just make the first cornerpost count for getting the right variable material then pass it on to all other sections, cornerposts and gates. It should be less tedious this way.

It feels cheesy and not entirely fair but at the same time very elegant and simple solution to patchy palisades. especially your first ones would definitely come out rainbow coloured.

but lets keep cupboards the way they are now? i can imagine the need to have variety as possible means of organizing and color coding your storage, a fine activity for bored late gamers. but reality is that most cupboards are cut and built from whatever is lying around, they eat quite a lot of trees. at later stages it might seem trivial but starting out with just bone saw and no credo buffs, you'd have to amass a lot of identical logs, probably not even your first choice of looks , just whatever is most prominent nearby or face the eyesore of randomly coloured madness.

i think that color unity is something you should have to pay a price for, as we do for trellises these days

also while im here, we should make exquisite chests have variable materials too!

Instead of going full spectrum for the palisade it would be nice to scale up the options to a 'light woodbark colour, a dark woodbark colour, a red woodbark colour, and a green woodbark colour'- and balance the wood types into the 4 categories. Or as aikidragon wrote, have the variable colour be detirmined by the post the section is run off of. (so people can do stripes if they are willing to build a shit ton of posts)

As far as cupboards- introducing varnish through painting and linseeed oils, and it's removal via turpentine might be a more interesting choice in my opinion.

Simple compromise to avoid Rainbow Palisades (has been suggested by someone before) would be:
A) When you place an initial Palisade cornerpost, it applies variable materials as usual.
B) Whenever "Extend" "Prepare for Gate" or "Build Gate" is used, the variable materials are inherited to the new part.

It has just come to my attention that spinning wheels don't have variable materials.

Bump!

+1, but also a thought.

Variable material palisade: Would it reduce the issues if the cornerpost determined the colour for the entire wall? That way everyone can pick their colour, and you won't have a technicolor wonder on screen for processing issues.
