Archery & Hunting

Postby sMartins » Thu Jan 18, 2018 7:17 pm

Make archery/throwing weapons the main way to hunt, so finally we can give to it the love that deserve.
Maybe UA and MC would be still the best way to defend your life from animals attacks.
Some stealth mechanincs would be cool as well, like more stealth you have VS animal perception, closer you can get to the animal.

Idk about archery and PVP, but not the aim of this topic.

P.S. Currently hunting with sword and shield sounds a bit dumb to me ... ( oh not only, sword, shield and boat is even more dumb :D )

Idk. Not entirely sure where to take those things. I kind of like going against wild nature in manly PvE.

Not sure, but I was thinking at something like using archery/throwing weapons to engage animals in combat ... cause the thing I don't like the most right now is the "attack order" that allow you to do whatever you want with animals, bringing them where you want, etc ... with just a simple click, while having to land a nice shoot on them first would be more challenging and interesting overall to me.

Also would be cool to have that feature that makes domesticated animals run away when you open a gate, on some wild animals to, like deers, for example, when you get close to them they should spread away ...

you could easily have certain animals killable via melee what with badgers boars wolverines and bears being fearless assholes that attack you. and more skittish animals requiring ranged attacks to hunt effectively.

you could also seperate deers into bucks and does. the does being more skittish and the bucks attacking you if you threaten the doe.
Newbie and noob do not mean the same thing.

Neither do figuratively and literally.

I think it’s unfortunate that archery is basically useless atm. It really sucked breaking it to one of our guys who wanted to do archery after he spent 40 points on it before asking if it was worth it. He actually quit the damn game over it. Raged out and left TS.

Sure the hunter credo helps not completely make the animal’s produce not completely useless, but it still hurts it so much that I’d rather just forget all about using ranged weaponry all together. And yes, early early EARLY game it can be helpful in getting that first bit of animal meat and hide, but it quickly falls off of usefulness within hours of starting a fresh character.

I think it would be better if the formula that lowers animal quality with arrows took into account the shooters mm in addition to the arrow. I get that you don't want fresh spawn alts shooting a troll to death, but a cultivated character with several hundred mm should get a bit of a break. Although, you'd expect decent arrows to be on hand at that point, but I stand by making mm play more of a role in hunting.
