I must confess that I agree that hedgehogs are needlessly rare. I would like to, even at a reduced spawn rate, see them spawning in more biomes.

I find plenty in forest biomes - maybe they're just not as common on your continent or something?

Hedgehogs are somewhat plentiful in "Root Bosk" -terrain and basically nonexistent everywhere else.

At the start of the world i would follow random hedgehog in the wild for 20 minutes to prevent it to despawn so dude from my village could come by and pick it for his credo. They ARE needlessly rare. And needlessly punishing too.

I remember being in some dark yellow biome and finding a few of them at the same time without even trying

It seems to be only biome with decent spawn rate.
