Golden/Silver Vark

Postby drakesaint » Thu Feb 01, 2018 9:17 pm

Varks are milimetrical-thick sheets of gold/silver. Varks are used to make silver/gold-foiled sweets. Varks, thus, become high-tier ingredients for food.

Pound one silver/gold nugget, get 100 gold/silver varks. One vark is enough to foil one sweet. The foil is so thin that the metal consumption is too few to produce any noticeable health effect (several micrograms per kilogram of sweets).

OK. Now that we have the packaging, what's the next step?

That is certainly opulent. Not sure.

At a glance I almost like this idea, the thought of adding more uses to gold and silver is always nice in my mind. Especially if they behaved like pepper in regards to buffing foods or something. The game could use a more steady and dedicated use for spending these metals. But I'm just not quite sure fully.

Precious metals need more uses for sure or they will slowly just lose value with no sink.

Eating too many of these fine foods should give you poisoning.

Pretty sure they use gold sheets or shavings for sausages too.

semi related: Youtube - The Making of Gold Leaf

The history of gilding is long and interesting, and a skilled artisan can make gold leaf that is see-through.

E: as an aside, 100% pure gold/silver is chemically inert and thus completely non toxic. It's the many compounds and derivatives of these elements which enables the heavy metal poisoning. I wouldn't however expect iron age hearthlords to be able to produce 100% pure gold and silver.

Silver, maybe, not entirely sure about that, but gold is entirely biochemically inert afaik.

Indeed.

Mercury gold extraction when?

Soon(tm).
