Long grass

Postby synaris » Fri Feb 02, 2018 3:30 pm

people are bitching about how much food it takes to feed animals, and i cant help but notice that we're feeding cows and sheep everything under the sun except the one thing they are supposed to eat. GRASS. since they eat nothing but grass in real life, why not add long grass as a crop?

long grass CAN NOT be eaten by players and it CAN NOT be put in chicken coops or be made into swill. it can only be placed into feeding troughs and rabbit hutches. and each long grass counts as 1.5x the amount of any other kind of food when putting it in troughs/hutches. make it grow somewhat slow, say 4 days to mature. 3?

the idea is to help fix the issue with animals eating food that hearthlings would otherwise eat.

you should be able to "pasture" your cattle. as in make a special grass area by "sowing seeds" which allready exist in a way.
then place the cows etc on it (not pigs, pigs eat swill) and let the animals eat the grass short, when left too long it will eat to bare ground and if that is also gone they will starve.
ake it have 4 different stages, too long (starts dying) long (good lentgh for eating) short(good after eating) too short (will go bare soon)
you have to move the animals from area to area. once dogs/wolves are implemented you can use them to move the animals between pastures.

or use a shepherds crook for this.

Would perhaps not mind grass, but could also see just reducing the amount animals eat.

Nah man, we should get quests to pasture livestock at specific locations to increase their quality instead of just getting quality from RNJesus ¦]

I actually like how much food animals need. IRL humans have bred them to be eating machines. I like OP's idea and Ukhata's addum. Let's do both!
