Some things to fix about death

When you inherit an ancestor's stats, I think you should also inherit their discoveries and their kin list. It's tedious having to discover everything from scratch.

I agree with the kin list, but question myself if it wouldn't be better for it to be account (instead of character) bound.

Have to disagree. Losing the kin list is indeed tedious, but it is also a very real indication that you did indeed die.

It might be an indication of having died, but for an online multiplayer game in which quite some mechanics revolve around trust it only leads to resorting to an out-of-game communication channel and copy/pasting a load of hearth secrets into the kin window on 'respawn'.

TL;DR: while I see what you intend with the mechanic... I sadly have to inform you that it simply is a chore. It might be remotely better (in terms of 'working as an indication of death') in case one would be unable to remote-kin other characters, but imho that approach most likely wouldn't get even love from your existing userbase.

It is not simply a chore. For example, you lose people whom you may have met briefly on encounter, memorized only, &c. That information is not simply a matter of going through the motions to reproduce, and that makes those experiences unique to the character who had them.

i would just like to point out that enacting social penalties for dead characters like this is stupid because this isnt some epic story telling RPG where we are playing as truly unique characters oozing with personality. these characters are shells, puppets that dance on a players strings and we insert our own personality into them. being unable to use the same name also makes no sense. at the very least we should have a "the second" suffix.

if there were types of personalities ect that actually were unique to the characters we played as, the permanent death penalties per world as they are would make some sense. but as they are, they dont. OP is right. let us inherit our kin list at least.
Newbie and noob do not mean the same thing.

Neither do figuratively and literally.

You can work around that by adding a space to the name (this works for a while) or feel free to recycle the name with '2nd', 'jr.' or whatever you like. Also you're able to set the presentation name (before interacting with another character) of an inherited character to the name of the ancestor, afaik this negates the inability to pick the same name at least toward all others interacting with your fresh character replacement.

Gonna have to agree with jorb on this one, it's more interesting if we lose our kin when we die.

You can't die in Haven.

You are literally unable to die if you aren't a dumbass.
