Garden Pots OP

Postby GamingRAM » Sun Feb 11, 2018 6:00 am

So I recently got back into the game to exclusively sell sketches.

While at the Community Fair I noticed something, blueberries, troll mushrooms, and Chiming Bluebells were plentiful and pretty cheap. And while initially troll mushrooms and bluebells may take a longtime to grow, simply making more garden pots solves this problem because crops multiply!

But that's just the thing though, I feel as though foragables shouldn't become crops. Garden Pots seriously reduce the need to leave your walls, and they also over saturate the market with these once valuable curios.

I'm not suggesting to get rid of Garden Pots or to prevent us from planting these items, but rather tweak it.

Some ideas:
Foragables become "domesticated" once planted, and "domesticated" versions have completely different FEPs.
Troll Mushrooms, Chiming Bluebells and other otherwise insanely rare foragables require Bat Guano. It was suggested by another that Notes of a Foul Symphony could be used with Chiming Bluebells.
OR, increase the time it takes to grow these foragables, and have other items (Spring Water, Bat Guano, Foul Symphony) to speed up the time. Although I would prefer just having the items be a requirement to begin with.

Maybe it's just me but I feel in games items should be, especially the more valuable ones, should be earned, not farmed.

i felt the exact same way when i came back. "people are farming everything i used to go out and collect? holy shit im worthless now."

on the other hand though, i like having access to good quality foragables.

i could live with a nerf or two in regards to these.

Foraging will never be as good as farming.
Now in stead of mushrooms you forage gray clay and edels.

A nerf i could see working is by making harvested Bluefield or troll shrooms only yield one plant that can be repotted, and the others must be used normally. So you could still plant a ton of bells, but now you'd have to find each one to plant. Would increase their value i think. Also makes them a nice raid spoil.

i could get behind that nerf. it would really only matter next world, but that wouldnt be so bad.

Idk. I could see simply adding more stuff to forage.

mind increasing the range of quality nodes when you do? and add some more? its rare as hell to find damn near any foragable over q20. even ants.

That'd be nice but...

How much of those new things could be farmed to?
What's the point of having a normally damn rare foragable (Bluebells) if they can be mass-produced so easily? The market is flooded with them, the credo isn't much of a wall to hop over it seems. At this point they are more common than Flotsams. I know FATE doesn't exist, but I thought the concept of it, like pearls, was to be something not farmed but rather nice to experience when it happens.

It makes sense that a lot of foragables would become obsolete with the introduction of agriculture, but from a gameplay perspective it's disheartening to learn foraging doesn't even have much a niche. A normally rare Bluebell doesn't go for much in the market, and that's concerning.

P.S. Truffles basically can't be farmed. That's why they are referred to as the "Diamonds of the Kitchen".

Edit: Why can Bluebells be planted but not Boletes?

No it's cool.

It's a direct upgrade. Yes, it trivializes shit. But it's still farming. Mass production. Controlled production.
