Keys.. Lost and Stolen..

i was thinking that with all the other new additions.. there would be one i would like to see.. i am sure that others would not ... but anyone opposed to it would be one of those people that runs around killing and stealing for no reason with no way to retaliate because they only pick on people weaker than them... with that said. the item id like to see is a key hanger... its purpose is to retrieve lost or stolen keys. it should be kind of like a bookshelf in game with the slots only for holding keys ... but the keys are not stored there just linked to the slot there... and any key linked to a slot can be retrieved from that slot no matter where they are in world... that way you can put one up on the wall and if your keys are lost or stolen you could go to the slot on the key hanger you had them linked to and call them back to you. well that is it.. hope my idea is liked and implemented as it would reduce the need for other things players do to serve similar ends... like alt banks... and to address any arguments... it would not stop raiders... as there is already a debuff for walking through a gate. so they have to knock down walls.. it would only make it easier to regain keys which were lost ( IE accidentally dropped overboard) or stolen. and reduce the amount of grief that can be caused by people who only play to be ........... well you know.

Am I wrong or now with the visitor debuff thingy keys don't matter that much anymore?

this has nothing to do with the whole carrying master keys and more to do with the fact that Alt vaults and griefers are distastefull. and quite frankly i feel pity for you if you believe that everyone plays with 6 alts to keep their keys and store all their stuff. it is easy to make mistakes or get killed by some random griefer.. and even replacing slave keys can be a pain in the backside.. if you had all your masters stored on an alt or in a locked box that you no longer have the keys to... so i restate are you one of those griefers as they are the only ones that would have any objections to this idea.

FYI: with a smart setup you only need one master key.

you only need one alt if u want to be 100% sure your keys are safe, not many settlements are targets of sieges and would you care about your key if your things were stolen/destroyed anyway?

are u standing in front of someone's walls and isnulting them or something like this? :roll: not sure how could u say something like this when you can just live in one of safer areas and don't do dumb things like leaving scented character outside...

they only cost one block each to make and if u really hate making them often because for some reason(if u find one then u are pretty good at this lol) u lose em so often then make a whole cupboard and never have to make another one again. really, why are q10 wooden blocks so valuable? noone seems to be cutting down all forests on the world these days.

this is very superstitios to say(maybe i am, maybe i am not), it's just surprising to see such a post to me as this problem looks very unusual and trivial, easy to fix with current game mechanics

well i am glad to see that none of you have had the same problems that others have had... and as i said before yes you can overcome this problem with the current game mechanics... by making a key alt to hold keys... which i do not believe should be something you should have to do.. and yes you can get around with one master. it is no issue to make another key... but as someone i know was recently killed for no reason while out crabbing for no reason with no provocation. the person then took their body and all their stuff i am not saying that all the stuff should be returned. i myself have also been killed without provocation from other players it is a hazard of this game not something i would change.. but it would be nice if there was a way to retrieve my keys. further more i also know people who have accidentally lost keys.. i have ran across players who have told me that they lost the keys to their area.. do i condone stupidity .. NO but i think it would be nice to have something like this to reduce the need for Key alts..it would also have its own inherent flaws but those would be part of the idea. do not get me wrong but all of the people who have called this idea stupid have only displayed so far how narrow minded they are. while i do welcome a reasonable reason why this idea is bad i have yet to see one.. all i have seen so far is the wonderful indication that there are too many people that have progressed to the point in this game where these concerns are irrelevant. i would like to see new players. and it is hard to get them to play when people who have played long enough to be strong punish them for stupid mistakes. while i dislike going on a tangent it is important to point out that if you hate on the new people the game will eventually Die and i enjoy the game. i am simply making a suggestion to fix a trivial problem i have seen others are having. it is not like i am asking that the ability for knars to use roads be removed .. or to get rid of the new addition of the dock. which are both far more insane than what i am suggesting i am just asking for something that will make life a bit easier and lessen the punishment from other players who have fun terrorizing the newbs. Again if you have an argument that is different. one that is more reasonable than showing how narrow minded you are i welcome it . and if it is good enough i will concede but so far all i have heard is i don't make those mistakes.. even though others have or i would not be making the suggestion.

Condone stupidity?
I can see people forgetting their only keys being a bit silly, but just like mismanaging your master key it's usually from lack of experience and familiarity with the mechanics of the game.
If it happens to you more than just a few times (like the times i forgot a lute on the ground and it despawned) then maybe it's a bit dumb and your fault.

So, what you're suggesting basically is like a hearth-key that can be summoned? maybe just put it in your hearth fire and be able to get it out from there. Though it would be just as bad as alt vaults, regardless if it's on a shelf or in your hearth fire.

It's unfortunate this happened to you but it happened to a lot of other people and the least you can do about it is learn from your mistakes, instead of being a prick to others who have probably gone through the same thing at one point or another.
