Higher Quality = Higher Aesthetic (Cooler looking items)

I think it would be pretty cool if there were different item icons for different qualities. The icon changes at certain points, like q10, q50, or q100. This, of course, would only affect certain items (ideally tools and weapons). An example would be a q2 stone axe looking like something on the verge of breaking, whereas a q10 axe is the normal icon. A q20 axe would have some cool patterns on the head, which get more intricate the higher the quality. This could also possibly work with some buildings. I understand that purely aesthetic changes such as this one can be a waste of development time, but in most games when I upgrade something, I do it so that it looks cooler (the increased efficiency is a side bonus).

It would definitely be cool to see different designs on items to mark their higher quality aside from just numbers.

Cute, but the effort scales very poorly with implementing new items, and has non-obvious interactions with other combinatorial effects that I would rather see -- tools made from distinct parts, for example. If the end result of all that is a mere graphical nicety then I'm afraid I can't afford it at present.

I could see custom skins unrelated to quality working. Ie you buy a skin in the cash shop and can apply it to any number of appropriate items that you craft. I think people would spend a fair bit of money on it, so reskins for popular items like B12 or Dhelm would be worth it.

Always must be careful for some loss of visual clarity with changing like this. Will ten year from now the men run around with B12 reskin as pool noodle or rave glowstick?

Ability to make custom textures and apply them to items with something would be nice indeed. Cost could be more than just 1 sketch though.

id like better looking items at higher qualities, just widen the gap. for example, q90 for the first change in appearance, q270 for the second ect.
Newbie and noob do not mean the same thing.

Neither do figuratively and literally.
