Sugar!

So, I cannot help but notice how many tasty varieties of berries (blueberries! Blackcurrant and redcurrant! Lingonberries! Blackberries and raspberries! Etc.) there are in this game, yet the only one that I've ever seen get used is blueberries to make pie.

I think I have a suggestion. Let us make sugar from beets! And/or maple sap! Or, since the beets in the game aren't of the variety sugar is refined from, add a sugar beet crop into the game. These can be grown in far more climates than sugar cane, and are where about 30% of the world's sugar comes from. With sugar we could make jams and candy. Lingonberries without lingonberry jam just seems cruel! Preserves have been around for a long time, and I think they'd be a nice culinary addition to the game. :D

Actually, i am very very disappointed by the lack of maple sap, so +1

+0 im split. on one hand, id like more crops and uses for them, but on the other hand im terrified that all current pie recipes would be altered so that sugar is required for them. that would make sense, since that sweet taste doesnt pop out of nowhere.

im currently my villages cook so this would affect the hell out of my job. plus, it'd be a new crop that we would have to quality grind starting from 10 impacting the quality of damn near all of our baked goods.

if this gets in, i hope its implimented next world.

Use sugar to increase q of tea like pepper increases food fep?
and maybe sugar on food to increase energy gained by eating :D

Refined sugar is a semi-modern innovation, but maple syrup is on the todo list already.

Hmmm, that's a good point, having looked it up a bit now. Oh well! No lingonberry preserves for me. Well, I suppose that preserving fruit in honey dates back quite a long time, perhaps I should suggest that instead!

I look forward to the maple syrup though. We already have pancakes, after all!
